Rendezvous With Destiny

D+3 | 23 July 1989, 23:00hrs - 07:00hrs vs @ Seligenstadt

The Soviet invasion force has reached the outskirts of Hanau, and continues to puncture the West German territorial army defensive lines. If Hanau falls, then Frankfurt - the location of US V Corps headquarters - is under direct artillery threat. US Reforger troops are en route to Europe for a planned counter-offensive in this sector; however, division-ready forces have been deployed to the theatre for exploitation operations designed to slow the WP advances.

US V Corps requested the 75th Ranger Regiment for reconnaissance along the front line of the Soviet advance. Rangers identified a buildup of Soviet MLRS artillery southeast of Hanau, within range of Frankfurt. There is a high risk of tactical nuclear ammunition being transported by rail to this location. Immediate action must be taken.

The 2nd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) arrived in Europe 24 hours ago as the Division Ready Force (DRF) to support V Corps. As the 101st motto goes, they are ready for their “rendezvous with destiny” to infiltrate by air assault and destroy the artillery units. Hopefully that move will also relieve some pressure on the crumbling West German defenses in Hanau.

The “Screaming Eagles” will hold until relieved by a composite Task Force "Comanche" from the remnants of 3rd Squadron of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. The “Workhorse” squadron must make haste to reach Hanau and decide to either bolster the West Germans or continue moving to relieve the 101st. The tactical situation at the time will dictate the best course of action.
